East Boston's Lost Schools: The Plummer School

The Plummer School was located at the corner of Lamson and Sumner Streets. Built between 1891-1892, the cornerstone was laid, March 20, 1891, and the building completed, April 1892, opening to students shortly after completion. The three-story brick and granite building was built on a 35,073 square foot lot and contained 10 schoolrooms and a large assembly hall. The school was closed during the mid-1940s and deeded to Good Will House for the sum of $1.00 in 1945. In April of 1946, the Good Will House relocated from its Webster Street location to the schoolhouse.
