East Boston’s Lost Schools: The Cudworth School

The Cudworth School is located at the north corner of Gove and Paris streets, now the location of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. Built in 1894-1895, the school opened to students 01 Oct 1895.  The two-story brick schoolhouse consisted of 10 rooms and a kindergarten. At the time of its opening, the Cudworth was the only school of its time to be fully fitted with adjustable furniture. Originally designated a primary school, it later became a training school specializing in woodworking.  The school closed in September of 1945 and students transferred to the Dante Alighieri and the Lyman schools.  The building was sold to the City of Boston in 1955 and razed.
