East Boston's Lost Schools: Prescott Grammar School

Located on the corner of Prescott and Bennington Streets, now the site of the Kennedy School.  Built between 1864-65, the school was dedicated in July of 1865 and opened to students the same year. The three-story brick and granite building contained 16 classrooms, 32 side rooms, two stairways, and a large hall. In 1876, the school was renamed the Emerson School in honor of George B. Emerson. The school was closed in 1953.
